Karbala’s Family Recreational Park Reopens After Rehabilitation, Welcoming Families to a Renewed Public Space
The Family Recreational Park, locally known as Sayyid Jودah Park, reopened in Karbala on Friday evening following the completion of a major rehabilitation and development campaign that renewed its green areas and recreational facilities, drawing large numbers of families from Karbala as well as visitors from other Iraqi governorates.
The park began receiving families at around 7 p.m., with visitors continuing to use the facility until approximately 11 p.m. during its first evening after reopening. The rehabilitation works included expanding green areas, planting natural grass, mature trees and palm trees, maintaining irrigation systems, paving areas with marble-patterned interlock tiles, upgrading internal paths and roads, installing modern decorative lighting columns, and providing new children’s playground equipment. Karbala Municipality previously stated that marble-patterned paving covered more than 8,000 square meters, while side-curb works covered approximately 4,650 square meters and a retaining wall exceeded 3,000 square meters. �

In September, Karbala Governorate announced that the rehabilitation project was nearing completion ahead of the park’s reopening, stating that the work was part of municipal service and recreational projects and was being followed by the local administration. The announced objectives included expanding green areas and improving recreational and service facilities for families. �

With its reopening, the park has resumed its role as a public space for recreation and family leisure, distinct from commercial amusement parks, combining green areas, seating spaces, children’s facilities, internal pathways and other amenities upgraded during the rehabilitation campaign.
The reopening comes as part of Karbala Municipality’s broader work to develop public parks and expand green spaces across the city. Representatives of local authorities attended the reopening, while families and visitors formed the main presence at the site.
